Do something nice for someone every day.
When you were a child, were you in any sort of scouting group? Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Awana – anything like that? Most of those groups work to instill a desire to help others in all the children involved. The Boy Scouts even have the Eagle Scout program, where the ultimate designation in their organization is earned by doing a community service project.
There are SO many reasons to do nice things for others, and I’m sure you can make an exhaustive list on your own. Let me tell you one reason you might forget or neglect to mention, because maybe it feels a little bit selfish – do nice things for others because it makes YOU feel good!
It doesn’t really matter what it is – pick up a cup of coffee for the building security guard who signs you in each day, get a Toys R Us gift card for the lady whose cubicle is filled with pictures of her children, or just make a point of saying something nice to each sad/grumpy/angry person you meet. You’ll see that doing something nice for others actually gives YOU a nice lift in spirits, too!
This happiness quick tip comes with a warning label…WARNING: Doing something nice for someone else can result in addictive behavior, including the inability to go 24 hours without doing at least one nice thing for someone who needs it.
When you’re having a bad day – or heck, when you’re having an average day, good day or great day – do something nice for someone, and watch spirits soar – theirs and yours.
